An incredible milestone

This year marked an incredible milestone as we awarded 12 Chief Scout's Acorn Awards, the highest award a Squirrel can achieve before moving on to Beavers! For the first time in our Drey, several Squirrels also worked hard to earn the Scottish Thistle Award Badge, celebrating Scottish culture and heritage alongside their regular badge pathways. A huge well done to all our young badge earners for their hard work and dedication.

Out & about: big days out and community events

  • 🚒 Livingston Fire Station: The Drey had an unforgettable visit meeting our local firefighters, exploring emergency gear, clambering aboard the fire engines and learning about fire safety. The absolute highlight was getting hands-on with the fire hose, an experience a few lucky adult Leaders got to try as well, leaving it open for debate who enjoyed it more!
  • 🌺 Remembrance: Taking time for reflection, our Drey participated thoughtfully in Remembrance activities, learning about service and honouring those who helped others.
  • 🐉 St George's Day Parade: Our Squirrels joined the wider Scouting family with pride, marching smartly in their red jumpers to celebrate St George's Day with the rest of the District.
  • 🦒 Five Sisters Zoo trip: We took our adventures on the road for a wild evening out! Our Squirrels had a fantastic time getting up close to the animals, exploring their habitats and learning all about different creatures. The zoo team was wonderful with our curious Drey, making sure every single question was answered and filling the evening with fun facts that kept everyone thoroughly engaged.
  • 🎪 Livingston Gala Day: Bringing colour and community spirit to the streets, the Drey joined in the fun of Gala Day, celebrating with local families and showcasing what being a Squirrel Scout is all about.

Drey adventures and favourite activities

  • 🐰 Easter hunt: Spring arrived with excitement as the Drey set off on a high-energy outdoor Easter hunt, solving clues, spotting seasonal signs and tracking down hidden treats.
  • 🌳 Wide games and outdoor play: Whether wrapped up against the brisk February chill or enjoying the bright June sunshine, outdoor games remained Drey favourites, building teamwork, burning energy and filling the grounds with laughter.
  • ♻️ Community litter pick: Equipped with mini litter pickers, our eco-conscious Squirrels took to the local area to help clean up the community, learning the importance of protecting local wildlife and caring for our shared green spaces.
